It is a small district that was carved out of Gujarat from Vadodara on the 26th of January 2013 and has become the 28th district of Gujarat. This district is divided into 6 talukas namely: Chhota Udepur, Pavi Jetpur, Kawant, Naswadi, Sakheda and Bodeli. The district has a rich history and culture and has a forest area of 75704 hectares. The population of this small district is 961190 and is spread over the area of 3087 sq. km. The town is on the edge of a lake and has a lot of temples and historic structures. The structures date back to 1920’s and they are Kusum Vilas Palace, Prem Bhavan, Kali Niketan and the Jain temple. It is also known for he Rathwas present inside and around the city. These Rathwas are famous for their painting that is done on the walls of the houses both inside and outside making them look extraordinary. It is located on the border of Madhya Pradesh and the lake near it deposits a large amount of dolomite, fluorite, granite and sand.
