Located on the western bank of Sabarmati, this ashram used to be the residence of Mahatma Gandhi. This is the spot from which the famous Dandi March was started in the year 1930. Now after so many years the ashram is a museum also called Gandhi Samarak Sangrahalaya. An architect Charles Correa designed this museum and today there are many activities take place in there. There are many things kept in display like the letters of Gandhiji, some quotes and there are various big oil paintings and a small statue of Gandhiji in the garden.
The Calico museum of textile is managed by the Sarabhai foundation and was established in the year of 1949. There a lot of textiles on display and they also include the court textile which were used in the Mughal and provincial rulers of the 15th to 19th century. The museum not only has just the historic textile but the galleries also has temple hangings, miniature paintings, South Indian bronzes, Jain art and sculptures and various other furniture and craft items. There are two buildings, in one there are textiles related to religions and in the other building, there are traditional art fabrics, tents, carpets and various other costumes. The main timings to visit the place are from 10:15 AM to 12:30 PM and from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM and another important thing to make sure not the visit it on Wednesdays and government holidays as the place is closed on those days.
This mosque was build in the year 1573 and is the most famous mosque of Ahmedabad and it is mainly because of the detailed and minute carvings done on the windows. There are 10 such windows on which you will find these beautiful carvings. The rear wall has square stone panels which are made in geometrical shapes while there are other two bays flanking that have stone slabs carved with intertwined trees and foliage and a palm motif. This temple was built in the year 1850 and is famous for being built entirely of white marble. On the walls of this temple you will find carvings of dancers, musicians, animals and flowers. This temple was made for Dharmanath and their statue is kept in the main temple. The paved courtyard is surrounded by 52 shrines, each of which contains image of Tirthankara and one of those contain the carving image of the 15 Tirthankara. It is a two storied structure with porches on three sides and front porch is crowned by a large dome.
This step well is also known as Rudabai stepwell as it was built by Queen Rudabai in the year of 1499 A.D. in a small village of Adalaj close to the city of Ahmedabad. This well was built in the memory of Rana Veer Singh, by his wife. On the walls as well as the pillars of this well you will find design and carvings of leaves, flowers, birds, fish and various other exceptional ornaments. This well provides a fine example of the architecture and culture of India. This well was an integral part of various regions as they were a means to drinking water as well as water for bathing and washing clothes. This well is uniquely intricately carved and is five stories deep. It is build in an Indo-Islamic style.
