Bhavsinhji Gohil was the founder of district Bhavnagar in the year 1724 and it is located in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat . It is an important city for trade and has the world’s largest ship breaking yard. Later in year 1878, the grandsons of Takhatsinhji build a modern system of civil and criminal justice.
This museum and library was established in the year of 1882 and was kept open for everyone from the year 1885. It is located at Gandhi smriti and is mainly a museum for archaeology. Here you will find various coins, weapons, wooden carvings, fossils and other archaeological findings throughout many years. In addition to this you will also find a huge collection of stamps. On the first floor there are some rare photographs of Gandhiji. The library has a vast collection of numerous books and possessions that were used by Gandhiji.
Gandhi smriti was established in the year 1955 and it is made to honor the life and the service done by Gandhiji. This smriti is attached to a clock tower and is one of the most frequently visited tourist spot in Bhavnagar.
